Walt Hensley is the pen name of Pellet Owner’s editor. I’m not an NFI-certified technician, and I don’t sell stoves, pellets, or parts. Every guide here starts from the manufacturers’ owner’s and service manuals, is cross-checked against what owners consistently report, and says which is which — including what you can safely check yourself and when it’s time to call a certified technician.

When a pellet stove acts up, the answers online are buried in forum threads, locked behind pay-per-answer sites, or written by someone trying to sell you a part. I started Pellet Owner to cover the part nobody does well: living with the stove you already own — figuring out what those blinking lights mean, keeping it clean and fed, and knowing what it really costs to run.

How we write these guides

Every guide is grounded in the official manufacturer manuals (Harman, Englander, PelPro, Comfortbilt and others) and in what owner communities consistently report. A stove is still a fire in a box: we help you understand and diagnose, and we tell you clearly when a job belongs to a certified hearth technician or chimney professional — not a DIY afternoon. I'm not an NFI-certified tech and I won't pretend to be one. The numbers and procedures here come from the manufacturer manuals; when something comes from owner reports instead, the guide says so.
